| MASTER OF SCIENCE IN REAL ESTATE BY DISTANCE LEARNING
The University of Greenwich, United Kingdom, a leading university renowned in real estate education, now offers in collaboration with Deakin University, Master of Science (MSc) in Real Estate by distance learning. The programme was developed by the School of Land and Construction Management of the University of Greenwich in conjunction with the School of Architecture and Building, Deakin University, Geelong Waterfront Campus. It was developed following an assessment of the education needs of this sector in Australia. This programme is already being offered through other overseas posts such as Hong Kong University, University of Nankai, Tianjin, China and TAR College, Malaysia. Research links exist with Renmin University, Beijing and Sunway College, Malaysia. Exchanges and partnerships have been developed with Penn State University, USA and Moscow Institute of Civil Engineering. The mode of offer has been designed with flexibility considerations to cater for busy professionals and those who prefer flexible learning and schedules. The programme is intended for property professionals and related experts who wish to extend their knowledge in the development and investment aspects of property and facilities. It enables candidates at graduate or equivalent professional level to develop and extend their knowledge and analytical skills in the context of property development process and property investment market. The subject units on offer include: management principles, property appraisal, urban economics, project management, property development and finance, and research methods, ending with a dissertation. The course is two years part time, the equivalent of one year full time study. Studies are off campus, and based on materials developed by both universities, with tutorial support provided online (email) and/or by fax. In addition, the University of Greenwich staff hold lecture sessions for each unit on weekends (two weekends per year), at Geelong Waterfront Campus. Each candidate is allocated a personal tutor to give guidance on written work, assessment and examinations. Admission to the programme requires either acceptable industry experience or the possession of a recognised Bachelor degree. Application forms can be obtained from Deakin University, completed and returned with a non-refundable cheque of $50 made payable to Deakin University, by 22 December 2000 for 2001. The first study weekend for 2001 is 10 and 11 February. Successful applicants pay $1500 per unit for the first two units, on commencement.
